In a world where technology reigns supreme, the younger generations are spending more and more times with technology in their hands. Teenagers are glued to their phones and toddlers are learning to use iPads before they can talk. While many parents often use the threat of “You’ll get square eyes if you keep looking at the screen,” trying to get their children to switch off their alternate reality can be difficult. Thankfully, this new app will help parents keep on top of this.
What Is The App?
This Google creation is called Family Link, and they have made this app to help parents take more control over the amount of screen time their children are exposed to. This one app can be downloaded onto the parent’s phone, and you immediately have control over the devices in your home. It’s not been formally released just yet, but it’s due to drop in the fall for those who want to take that extra step.
What Does It Do?
The Family Link app allows moms and dads to link their children’s devices to one app. From there, you can turn these devices off and on, and you can even create ‘bedtime’ and ‘wake-up time’ options. This means that your daughter won’t be able to stay up until 2 am texting her new boyfriend, and your son won’t be able to wake up before school and fill his brain with games and trivial YouTube videos.
However, it doesn’t end there. Those in control of the app can also track the apps used on their children’s phones. It’s down to you to approve or deny them having certain apps on their phone, and you can even get to grips with the statistics. If your child is spending four hours on Instagram a day, you’ll be able to see it all. As if that wasn’t enough, the app also comes with a GPS feature, where parents can track the devices and the children when they leave the house. This gives parents peace of mind when they are out and about.
While this is not the first app like this to be released, Family Link has been designed to be the most foolproof. Is it a good idea or an invasion of privacy, though? You decide!
